Pediatric Physical Therapists are trained to evaluate and treat children with gross motor dysfunction or delay. We use a problem-solving approach to enhance the child’s capacity to develop and improve their gross motor skills. Gross motor skills are those skills we use to move our whole body, arms and legs.

Physical Therapists may help with the following diagnosis:

  • Torticollis
  • Plagiocephaly
  • Brachial Plexus Injuries
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Autism
  • Down Syndrome
  • Balance and Coordination Difficulties
  • Developmental Delays
  • Foot Dysfunctions (pronation/supination)
  • Gait Disorders
  • Hypotonia
  • Hydrocephalus
  • Spina Bifida
  • Genetic or Metabolic Disorders
  • Sports injuries
  • Orthopedic conditions

During typical motor development, children achieve certain motor milestones within a time frame or age range. Children who demonstrate a delay in achieving these milestones are good candidates for physical therapy. A Physical Therapist works closely with children and their parents/caregivers to promote strength, endurance, and proper motor development, ensuring every child has the best opportunity to move and function within their everyday life.
