Pediatric Speech Therapy Services

Pediatric Speech Language Pathologists are trained to evaluate and promote the development of communication skills, oral-motor skills and feeding skills. Speech and language therapists (SLP) help to build speech, communication and language skills in children to help them engage with the people and world around them with greater ease and success.

Speech therapists may assess:

  • Speech development
  • Central Auditory Processing
  • Cognitive-communication
  • Oral/Feeding/Swallowing (Dysphagia)
  • Articulation and phonology
  • Stuttering/cluttering (fluency)
  • Apraxia
  • Receptive and expressive language disorders
  • Social and Pragmatic Language
  • Oral Motor Dysfunction
  • Tongue Thrust
  • Voice

Speech therapists may also help with the use of assistive technology or communication devices when a child is unable to speak on his or her own. As with all of our therapists here at Thera-Peds, our speech therapy sessions are rooted in play in order to fully engage a child in activities and exercises to help build communication skills at all levels.

Children who have developmental delays or special needs often need help to improve their language, speech and communication skills. Children who cannot express their wants and needs can become frustrated and turn to inappropriate behaviors (hitting, crying, biting, temper tantrums, etc.). A SLP can help you increase your child’s communication skills and/or provide environmental adaptations to help facilitate successful communication. There are many things that parents and family members can do to help your child grow and learn; your SLP will help teach you what you can do with your child at home. Working together can help your child succeed in communicating!
